US approves $93 million sale of Javelin, Excalibur weapons to India PHOTO
The US State Department has approved the sale of Javelin anti-tank missiles and Excalibur guided artillery munitions to India in a package valued at $93 million, the Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced.
The purchase represents India’s first acquisition through Washington’s Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program since bilateral tensions rose in August following US tariff increases on Indian goods, Daily Times reports.
Under the approved deal, India will receive up to 216 Excalibur tactical projectiles and 100 Javelin missile units. The Indian Army already employs Excalibur precision artillery rounds with its M-777 Howitzer systems. RTX Corp is designated as the principal contractor for the Excalibur munitions, while the Javelin systems will be supplied through its joint venture with Lockheed Martin.
According to the DSCA, the sale is intended to bolster US–India strategic cooperation and strengthen India’s security as a key defence partner, thereby supporting stability across the Indo-Pacific and South Asia. The approval comes shortly after India placed a new order for fighter-jet engines for its indigenous Tejas combat aircraft, supplied by General Electric.
