US conducts nuclear safety training for Kazakhstan's National Guard
Global Nuclear Security Program of the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency, together with the Kazakh National Guard, conducted a nuclear security training qualification course from July 17 to 25, 2023 at the Anti-Crisis Training Center in Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakstan.
"The training course included the development and conduct of exercises and drills to assess the competencies of the nuclear security guard force at the unit level and marked an important step in the Kazakh National Guard's intention to create additional nuclear security specialisation among its personnel,” Caliber.Az reports, citing the US Embassy in Kazakhstan.
“The course reflects a new training focus on specific units responsible for nuclear security, including Ust-Kamenogorsk, Almaty and Kurchatov. The Threat Reduction Agency will continue to work with the National Guard to establish a sustainable nuclear security training programme as well as a cadre of instructors, particularly at the Anti-Crisis Training Centre," the diplomatic mission said.
