US detects Russian bombers flying near Alaska
The US detected and tracked the flight of two Russian warplanes in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) on February 8.
The Russian planes did not go beyond international airspace, and did not interfere with the airspace of the United States or Canada, Gazeta.Ru reports citing the Joint North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).
NORAD noted that this is the second tracking of Russian planes in the last three days. At the same time, they specified that Russian activity in the specified zone occurs regularly and is not considered a threat.
On February 7, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that two strategic missile carriers Tu-95MS carried out a scheduled flight over the neutral waters of the Bering and Chukchi Seas.
A day earlier, NORAD followed the flights of a group of Russian military aircraft near Alaska.
As the Russian defence agency informed, two Tu-160 strategic missile carriers flew over the neutral waters of the Arctic Ocean and the Laptev Sea. The flight lasted more than 10 hours.
