US diplomat urges de-escalation in South Lebanon Amid rising tensions
Amos Hochstein, Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs, head of the Bureau of Energy Resources (ENR) at the US Department of State emphasized the urgent need for de-escalation in southern Lebanon during talks with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri in Beirut.
Following the meeting, Hochstein spoke to reporters, expressing concern over prolonged military tensions between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebano, TASS reports.
He underscored that US diplomatic efforts are squarely focused on preventing further escalation that could lead to a full-scale war.
"The situation in the border areas is extremely precarious," Hochstein stated, stressing the importance of avoiding escalation and finding effective solutions to facilitate the safe return of displaced individuals to their homes.
As a mediator in border disputes between Lebanon and Israel, Hockstine called for decisive steps to reduce military tensions, highlighting the imperative of dialogue and cooperative measures to maintain regional stability.
