US hits Iran’s Larak Island, CENTCOM cites IRGC mine-laying threat

At least two people were killed and two others injured in a US drone strike on Iran’s Larak Island, Tasnim news agency reported.

According to the Iranian side, the island was targeted by US drones. Iranian authorities have yet to comment on the incident.

Meanwhile, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that American forces had carried out limited, targeted action against Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces, saying the strikes were aimed at preventing the elite Iranian force from laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

“U.S. forces took limited, precise action against IRGC minelaying forces posing an imminent threat in the Strait of Hormuz. In essence, Iran created the threat and the U.S. military eliminated it to protect civilian mariners, commercial shipping, and the free flow of global commerce,” CENTCOM said in a post on X.

Earlier, Barak Ravid, a correspondent for Axios and Israel’s Channel 12, reported that US forces had struck two missile launchers on Larak Island in southern Iran. According to his source, the Iranian side had intended to use the launchers to “launch missiles with sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz.”
