US, Iran trade accusations of violating ceasefire memorandum

11 July 2026 09:09

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused the United States of violating the ninth clause of the memorandum of understanding signed between Washington and Tehran, escalating tensions as both sides continue to trade accusations over the implementation of the agreement.

In a post on social media platform X, Araghchi said Iran had upheld its commitments under the memorandum, while accusing the United States of failing to do the same, Caliber.Az reports.

“Iran has so far kept its word, unlike the so-called U.S. Treasury Secretary who is violating Para 9 of the MoU.  That violation follows other violations and missteps by the United States. Reality check: There can only be mutual compliance,” Araghchi wrote on X.

According to Araghchi, the ninth clause of the memorandum commits the United States not to impose new sanctions or deploy additional military forces to the region.

The latest exchange comes amid growing tensions between Washington and Tehran. Since July 8, both countries have repeatedly accused each other of violating the ceasefire memorandum signed on June 18. A day earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump declared the truce over, announced the reinstatement of oil sanctions on Iran and warned that a blockade on Iranian ports could also be reimposed.
