US, Iran trade new strikes in latest escalation VIDEO / UPDATED

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had launched missile and drone strikes against US military bases in Jordan, describing the operation as retaliation for what it called recent American air and missile attacks on Iranian military and civilian sites.

In a statement, the IRGC said its Aerospace Force carried out the 25th wave of Operation Nasr 2, targeting the King Faisal and Prince Hassan bases in Jordan, according to Fars.

The IRGC claimed a hangar used to prepare F-15 fighter aircraft was hit during the first phase of the operation. It also said a drone preparation facility was struck, destroying eight MQ-9 drones before they became operational and causing heavy damage to two others.

According to the statement, a subsequent strike damaged two heavy US military helicopters inside a maintenance hangar. The IRGC further claimed that an attack on accommodation used by US personnel resulted in an unspecified number of casualties and injuries.

The Iranian force said the operation was launched in response to recent US air and missile strikes, which it alleged had targeted both military and civilian facilities in Iran despite the absence of any maritime incident the previous night.

The statement said the operation would continue until what it described as the "aggressor" had paid a sufficient price for violating agreements and resuming hostilities. It argued that imposing heavy costs on the United States was necessary to restore deterrence and prevent future attacks.

The IRGC also warned that if US strikes continued, Iran was prepared to carry out further operations with more severe consequences.

Iran's army says it has carried out a new wave of retaliatory drone strikes against a US military base in Kuwait, targeting what it described as American military facilities at Al-Doha Camp, Press TV writes.

In a statement, the army said the operation marked the 21st stage of its "Operation Thunder" campaign. It claimed the strikes hit ammunition depots and logistical equipment belonging to the US Army's ground forces command centre at the base.

The statement described Al-Doha Camp in western Kuwait as a key US military support hub in the region.

Iran said the strikes were carried out in response to what it called repeated US aggression against the country.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said it carried out its 11th consecutive night of strikes against Iran on Monday evening, targeting military facilities it said were linked to Tehran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to CENTCOM, the strikes targeted Iranian military operations centres, maritime capabilities, aircraft hangars, drone storage facilities and military logistics infrastructure.

The U.S. military said the operations were intended to further degrade Iran's ability to threaten commercial vessels transiting the strategic waterway.

CENTCOM said Iran had attacked more than 30 commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz over the past three months, describing the incidents as endangering mariners and undermining freedom of navigation.

The U.S. military added that the Strait of Hormuz remains open to commercial traffic and said its forces have helped facilitate the transit of around 900 commercial vessels carrying approximately 450 million barrels of crude oil since early May.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has said it will continue its "operation to punish the United States", while the Iranian Armed Forces reported attacks on US facilities in Kuwait.

At the same time, Iranian media reported explosions in Iraq's Kurdistan Region, as well as the activation of air defence systems near Tehran and explosions heard in the cities of Chabahar and Tabriz.

Separately, Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters of the Armed Forces warned that the United States could launch strikes against the Islamic Republic's nuclear and other strategically important facilities.

The headquarters said that if such strikes were carried out, Tehran would view them as a further escalation of the regional conflict. It added that, in that event, all US interests, as well as those of its allies and countries supporting Washington, would become "targets of powerful attacks" by the Iranian Armed Forces.
