US, Israel launch strikes on Iran’s Kharg island
The United States and Israeli militaries have carried out strikes on Iran’s Kharg Island, the country’s primary oil export hub, Iran’s Mehr News Agency reports.
The agency reported that multiple attacks targeted the island, with several explosions heard in the area.
Kharg Island is considered strategically significant, as it handles a large portion of Iran’s oil shipments.
Earlier, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that if the U.S. military were to cross what it described as “red lines,” Iran’s retaliation would not be confined to the region.
The U.S. has already bombed dozens of targets on Kharg, including air defences, a naval base and mine storage facilities, Gen. Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has previously said - and the Trump administration has previously warned it would not rule out the possibility of seizing the island, which accounts for more than 90% of Iran's oil exports.
