US officials to meet with national energy executives as gas prices surge
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, Energy Secretary Chris Wright, and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum are set to participate in this week’s meeting of the American Petroleum Institute (API), the organisation said in a statement to CNN.
The trade association holds its annual March meeting in Washington, D.C., with the agenda and guest list finalised months in advance.
This year’s gathering comes amid rising gasoline prices, driven by the conflict in Iran and the Trump administration’s efforts to secure international support for Strait of Hormuz security.
Yesterday, Vice President Vance acknowledged the gas price surge as a “problem” but called it a “temporary blip” expected to ease in the coming months. He also said additional measures would be taken to lower prices. Over the past week, the national average gasoline price rose from $3.59 to $3.88 per gallon.
