US president voices support for Orbán as Hungary prepares to vote VIDEO
US President Donald Trump has publicly expressed his support for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for April 12, 2026.
In a post on his Truth Social account, Trump described Orbán as “a true friend, fighter, and winner,” highlighting that relations between Hungary and the United States “have reached new heights of cooperation and impressive achievements” during his administration, Caliber.Az reports.
"Highly Respected Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, is a truly strong and powerful Leader, with a proven track record of delivering phenomenal results. He fights tirelessly for, and loves, his Great Country and People, just like I do for the United States of America.
Viktor works hard to Protect Hungary, Grow the Economy, Create Jobs, Promote Trade, Stop Illegal Immigration, and Ensure LAW AND ORDER! Relations between Hungary and the United States have reached new heights of cooperation and spectacular achievement under my Administration, thanks largely to Prime Minister Orbán.
I look forward to continuing working closely with him so that both of our Countries can further advance this tremendous path to SUCCESS and cooperation. I was proud to ENDORSE Viktor for Re-Election in 2022, and am honored to do so again. Viktor Orbán is a true friend, fighter, and WINNER, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Re-Election as Prime Minister of Hungary — HE WILL NEVER LET THE GREAT PEOPLE OF HUNGARY DOWN!” the post reads.
The upcoming elections could prove among the most challenging for Orbán in recent years. While the ruling Fidesz party remains Hungary’s dominant political force, opposition parties are gradually gaining ground.
Notably, the newly formed centrist party Tisza, led by Péter Magyar and supportive of Ukraine’s EU membership, has been narrowing the gap with Fidesz, according to recent polls.
On January 10, Fidesz officially nominated Orbán as its candidate for prime minister in the upcoming vote. Orbán has previously expressed his readiness to continue leading the government.
Orbán’s policies have long drawn criticism from the European Union. Orbán has maintained a hardline stance on migration and EU sanctions policies, reinforcing his nationalist and conservative platform.
Earlier reports indicated that Orbán had accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of attempting to interfere in Hungary’s upcoming elections.
Meanwhile, recent videos circulating online show Hungarian citizens removing billboards erected by the ruling Fidesz party and Prime Minister Orbán. The advertisements were widely described as carrying an “anti-Ukrainian and anti-European” message.
