US spent about $7.5 million on Armenian media programme before termination Government’s data reveals

The United States allocated approximately $7.5 million to support Armenian media outlets, journalists and bloggers through a media development programme that was terminated in 2025, according to U.S. government spending data reviewed by RIA Novosti.

Washington had initially planned to allocate $15 million to the Media Programme in Armenia, which was launched in 2023 and was scheduled to operate through 2028. However, the program was discontinued about two years after its launch.

The funding was distributed through Internews, an international nonprofit organization that supports independent media initiatives.

By December 2024, the program had provided assistance to 59 Armenian media outlets and training to 338 media professionals. Journalists and bloggers had also published 805 pieces of content with support from the initiative, according to documents reviewed by RIA Novosti.

The program was terminated after Donald Trump returned to the White House and his administration initiated a broad review of U.S. foreign assistance, including programs operated by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

As part of that review, funding for the Internews grant supporting the Armenian media program was terminated on March 1, 2025.
