US strikes cargo vessel transporting essential goods in Gulf of Oman
The United States has struck a 150-ton cargo vessel transporting essential goods from Khasab to Sirik, Iran, in the Gulf of Oman.
Five crew members were on board at the time of the incident, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
They were rescued by passing vessels and taken to Oman.
Meanwhile, a notice issued by the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) centre stated:
“UKMTO has received a report of an incident 21NM northeast of Sohar, Oman. Local authorities have reported a tanker has experienced a fire in the engine room. No environmental impact has been reported. Authorities continue to investigate.”
No further details regarding the cause of the incident or the circumstances surrounding the reported strike were immediately available.
