US to deploy F-35A aircraft in northern Japan
Starting in the spring of 2026, the United States will permanently deploy 48 fifth-generation F-35A combat aircraft at the Misawa base in northern Japan.
Misawa is in joint use by the United States and Japanese Air Forces. Since 2018, Tokyo has been placing its F-35A in this place, which are purchased in the United States and also assembled in Japan under license, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Tokyo plans to receive a total of 105 F-35s of two modifications for the needs of the Air Force.
Earlier, the Japanese media wrote that the ruling Liberal Democratic Party in Japan had begun discussing the creation of an "Asian version of NATO", in connection with which a special committee was established at the party headquarters. The Committee was established on the instructions of Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
In early November, Cabinet Secretary General Yoshimasa Hayashi said that the Japanese government would closely monitor trends in relations between Russia and the United States. He reiterated the importance of cooperation between Washington and Tokyo.
