US to introduce $1 fee for entry into Green Card lottery

The US State Department has proposed introducing a $1 fee for registration in the annual lottery that provides access to a US permanent residence permit, the Green Card, Caliber.Az reports, citing the US Federal Register website.

The State Department believes this measure will " equitably distribute the burden of lottery registration " among all those who participate, not just the winners.

The decision comes into effect before the start of the new program season in early October. The State Department will announce exact dates later. 

The application fee of $330 for selected applicants remains the same.
