Media: US to provide Israel with High-Altitude Missile Defense system
The US will expedite the delivery of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system to Israel to counter potential ballistic missile threats from Iran amid escalating tensions in the region.
On the evening of October 1, Iran launched a massive missile strike against Israeli territory in retaliation for the killings of key figures in the leadership of the radical Palestinian movement Hamas, the Lebanese Shiite organisation Hezbollah, and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (the elite branch of the armed forces), Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Tehran has claimed that 90 per cent of its missiles successfully hit the intended targets; however, Israel asserts that Iran launched approximately 180 missiles, with a significant number intercepted by its defence systems.
On October 9, Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant warned that Israel remains committed to its plans for a response to the missile attack, stating that the strike on Iran would be so "devastating and unexpected" that the Iranians would have no time to react.
