Ukraine, Norway strengthen defence cooperation during frontline meeting PHOTO
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine General Oleksandr Syrskyi and Commander-in-Chief of the Norwegian Armed Forces General Eirik Kristoffersen visited Ukrainian military units carrying out combat missions in southern part of the country, underscoring continued defence cooperation between Kyiv and Oslo amid the ongoing war with Russia.
Syrskyi announced the visit on Facebook, Caliber.Az reports.
“Together with Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Kingdom of Norway General Eirik Kristoffersen, I visited military command bodies as well as separate airborne assault and assault units performing combat missions to repel the armed aggression of the Russian Federation in the Southern Operational Zone,” Syrskyi said.
The Ukrainian commander noted that Norway remains one of Ukraine’s most reliable and committed allies during the full-scale war, particularly through military assistance and financial support aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities with air defense systems, drones, and ammunition.
According to Syrskyi, Kristoffersen was personally briefed on the operational situation at the front and observed the use of available weapons systems by Ukrainian forces.
The two commanders also discussed the urgent needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in weapons, military equipment, and ammunition, as well as further strengthening bilateral cooperation and coordination within broader international frameworks.
Syrskyi expressed gratitude to Kristoffersen, the Norwegian government, and the Norwegian people for what he described as their steadfast support and comprehensive assistance to Ukraine.
Earlier, Kristoffersen stated that Oslo does not rule out the possibility of a future Russian invasion of Norway, suggesting that Moscow could potentially justify such actions under the pretext of “protecting” Russian nuclear facilities in the Arctic.
