US VP Vance en route to Yerevan for meeting with Armenian PM

09 February 2026 12:09

U.S. Vice President JD Vance is due to hold talks with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Yerevan on Monday (January 9), with both leaders expected to deliver official statements following their meeting, the Armenian government said.

Vance, accompanied by his wife, Usha Vance, is due to arrive in Armenia for a two-day official visit marking the start of a broader regional tour, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.

The visit, which will include a subsequent trip to Baku, is aimed at advancing U.S. President Donald Trump’s “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) initiative.

The project seeks to bolster peace efforts in the South Caucasus by strengthening economic integration and strategic connectivity across the region.

Officials view the trip as part of Washington’s wider push to expand its presence in the South Caucasus. Trump has previously announced plans to sign a cooperation agreement with Armenia on peaceful nuclear energy and to promote contracts for semiconductor manufacturers.

At the same time, the United States intends to discuss deepening its partnership with Azerbaijan, including potential deliveries of American defence equipment.

Armenian officials expect Vance’s visit to open new avenues for bilateral cooperation and significantly deepen strategic dialogue between Washington and Yerevan.
