US welcomes Türkiye's role in normalising Azerbaijan-Armenia relations
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller has said that the United States welcomes Türkiye's productive role in the normalisation of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
“So I will say that in all of our conversations – or all the conversations between the Secretary – between Secretary Blinken and Foreign Minister Fidan, that is a topic that comes up for conversation – as part of the conversation. So I won’t give a specific readout, but that is something that they regularly discuss when they either get together in person or when they talk on the phone. We welcome Türkiye playing a productive role in resolving this conflict. We agree with what the foreign minister said, that peace is conflict and we – or is possible and we would support direct talks between the two parties to achieve that,” Miller said at a briefing, Caliber.az reports.
To recap, Hakan Fidan, who is visiting Azerbaijan on December 14, said during a briefing that the next period should be the beginning of stability in the South Caucasus.
"The way forward should be continued peacefully. Türkiye's relations with Armenia will normalise after relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia normalise. We support the discussions between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the direction of normalisation of relations, and we are ready to fulfil any tasks set before us," Fidan stressed.
