Azerbaijan, Italy discuss prospects for strategic partnership PHOTO

Azerbaijan and Italy have discussed expanding their strategic partnership during talks held in Baku on January 13.

According to Caliber.Az, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met Italy’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, who is on an official visit to the country, the Azerbaijani foreign ministry said.

According to the ministry, both sides expressed satisfaction with the current level of bilateral cooperation and reviewed opportunities to deepen ties across a range of areas, including politics, trade and the economy, energy, security, as well as humanitarian and educational cooperation.

Particular emphasis was placed on joint projects in the energy and education sectors, with officials highlighting the importance of the Italian-Azerbaijani University as a flagship initiative.

The two sides also exchanged views on Azerbaijan’s cooperation with the European Union, including collaboration on energy and transport corridors and projects related to renewable energy. A number of other international and regional issues of mutual interest were also discussed.

The meeting was followed by a new round of political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries. The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rzayev, while the Italian side was headed by Cirielli.
