Baku, Astana review future cooperation plans PHOTO

14 January 2026 16:04

Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Alim Bayel, met with Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Department for Foreign Policy Issues at the Presidential Administration.

The parties reviewed the results of bilateral cooperation over the past year and discussed plans for the near future, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Azerbaijan.

Alim Bayel highlighted the high frequency of mutual visits as an important indicator of intensive cooperation: “Over the past three years, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited Azerbaijan six times, while President Ilham Aliyev visited Kazakhstan five times.”

On August 8, 2025, a long-standing conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia was finally resolved.

“A historic Declaration on Peaceful Settlement was signed. Kazakhstan also contributed to the peace process by hosting Azerbaijan-Armenia negotiations in 2024. Symbolically and practically significant is the fact that the first cargo allowed into Armenia through Azerbaijani territory in 30 years was Kazakh wheat,” the embassy noted.

The parties emphasised the importance of further unblocking communications.

“A major development in 2025 was the full inclusion of Azerbaijan in the Central Asia leaders’ summit format. Kazakhstan has actively supported this process. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, commenting to the Azerbaijani press, noted that he would be glad to see Azerbaijan participate in the C5 + USA format,” the statement added.

The discussion also highlighted the need to strengthen economic and industrial cooperation using a joint investment fund, as well as the further development of transport, logistics, and energy collaboration. International and regional agenda issues were also discussed, noting that Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are actively cooperating in shaping a new geopolitical and geoeconomic architecture across the Eurasian space.
