Azerbaijani envoy pays tribute to Turkish officer killed in plane crash Photo
Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Türkiye, Rashad Mammadov, and Azerbaijan’s military attaché, Major General Zaur Zeynalov, visited the family of Turkish Armed Forces Senior Lieutenant Cüneyt Kandeymir in Ankara on January 14, following his death in a military aircraft crash in Georgia.
The Azerbaijani delegation was accompanied by officials from Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defence, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Senior Lieutenant Kandeymir was among the personnel who lost their lives when a C-130 military transport aircraft crashed during a flight in Georgia.
During the visit, Ambassador Mammadov expressed condolences to the family and noted the close bond between the two countries, stating that Azerbaijan makes no distinction between the heroes of Türkiye and Azerbaijan.
"The martyrs of Türkiye are our martyrs,” he said, adding that every soldier stands ready to sacrifice their life for the homeland.
The ambassador and accompanying officials also visited the fallen officer’s room and took part in prayers in memory of the martyrs of both countries.
Cüneyt Kandeymir, 31, was laid to rest in Ankara’s Gölbaşı district. One of the streets in the Turkish capital has been named in his honour.
The C-130 military transport aircraft, which was en route from Azerbaijan, went down in November in Georgia near the border with Azerbaijan. The aircraft, was carrying 20 Turkish military personnel, including the flight crew. There were no survivors.
