Uzbek president, Georgian PM attend unveiling of Alisher Navoi monument PHOTO
A monument to the renowned Uzbek poet and statesman Alisher Navoi was unveiled in Tbilisi during a ceremony attended by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
The unveiling marked an important milestone in the development of cultural ties between Uzbekistan and Georgia, Caliber.Az reports, citing Uzbek media.
Speakers at the ceremony described Navoi as one of the outstanding figures of world literature, noting that his works have promoted the ideals of humanism, enlightenment, wisdom and mutual respect for centuries.
Uzbekistan and Georgia have agreed to elevate bilateral relations to a new level, setting an ambitious goal of increasing annual trade to $1 billion while expanding cooperation in investment, transport, logistics, tourism, and other strategic sectors.
The agreements were reached during talks between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, held in both one-on-one and expanded formats as part of the Uzbek leader's state visit to Georgia.
