Uzbekistan, Albania agree to deepen economic cooperation
Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Albanian President Bajram Begaj held talks in Tashkent, with official delegations from both countries also in attendance.
The two sides discussed prospects for strengthening practical cooperation and expanding bilateral relations across a range of sectors, Caliber.Az reports via Uzbek media.
At the start of the meeting, Mirziyoyev described the visit as a historic milestone, saying it would elevate relations between Uzbekistan and Albania to a new level.
The main focus of the talks was expanding trade and economic ties and increasing bilateral trade turnover. Both sides discussed the development of a comprehensive cooperation programme covering agriculture, green energy, geology, information technology, digitalisation, and tourism.
The possibility of using the Albanian port of Durrës as a logistics hub was also considered, aimed at improving access for Uzbek goods to markets in Southern Europe and the Mediterranean region.
The two countries emphasised the importance of strengthening the legal and institutional framework for trade, economic, and investment cooperation.
Following the talks, both sides agreed to establish an intergovernmental commission, with its first meeting scheduled to take place in Tashkent later this year.
The presidents also exchanged views on regional and international developments during the meeting.
