Uzbekistan's president ratifies treaty on allied relations with Azerbaijan
Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has ratified an agreement on allied relations with Azerbaijan.
The treaty, in particular, provides for the refusal to participate in alliances and blocs directed against each other, and to refrain from engaging in actions that could harm partnership and alliance relations, Caliber.Az reports per Uzbek media.
The treaty was signed on August 23, 2024 in Tashkent between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev following the first meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council of the two countries.
Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan share strong bilateral relations, marked by cooperation in various sectors, including trade, energy, and regional security.
Trade between the two countries has grown significantly in recent years, with both nations focusing on expanding their economic ties. Azerbaijan is one of Uzbekistan's key trading partners in the South Caucasus, and both countries have increased investments and trade exchanges in fields such as agriculture, construction materials, and energy.
The two countries also collaborate closely on regional security issues, particularly in relation to countering terrorism, drug trafficking.
