Vahagn Aleksanyan elected Armenia's deputy parliament speaker

Vahagn Aleksanyan has been elected deputy speaker of Armenia's National Assembly, after 62 lawmakers voted in favour of his candidacy, while 27 voted against.

The Armenia faction did not participate in the vote, while lawmakers from Strong Armenia voted against Aleksanyan's nomination, Caliber.Az reports, citing Sputnik Armenia, Caliber.Az reports, citing Sputnik Armenia.

He received backing from the parliamentary majority, the ruling Civil Contract faction.

Earlier, parliament elected Ruben Rubinyan as speaker and Hayk Konjoryan as another deputy speaker, both representing the ruling Civil Contract party.

Konjoryan secured the post with the support of 63 lawmakers, while 28 members voted against his nomination.

Konjoryan has led the Civil Contract parliamentary faction since 2021 and is regarded as one of the ruling party's senior figures in the National Assembly.
