Volodin may remain chairman of State Duma in new Russian parliament

Vyacheslav Volodin may retain his position as chairman of Russia’s State Duma in the new, ninth convocation, according to sources cited by RBC.

The publication reports that a decision to keep Volodin in the post has already been made, although the final decision rests with the president.

The decision could still change before the new parliament holds its first plenary session, RBC’s sources said. They added that Volodin had actively participated in discussions over the composition of the new State Duma.

If he remains chairman, Volodin would become the first person to lead the State Duma for more than two consecutive terms. He has held the post since 2016.

In the 2026 election, he won the Saratov single-member constituency No. 164 with 82.84% of the vote.
