WhatsApp could be blocked in Russia, official says

WhatsApp may be fully blocked across Russia due to requirements under national legislation, a member of a public advisory body has warned.

Armen Gasparyan, a member of the Public Council under Russia’s Ministry of Digital Development, said the authorities were moving closer to restricting the messaging service because it is not complying with legal obligations, Caliber.Az reports.

Speaking to Russian media, Gasparyan said, “Unfortunately, we are not seeing this yet, which means everything is heading towards this messenger being blocked in line with the requirements of Russian legislation.”
