World leaders have congratulated Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his victory in the May 28 presidential runoff.

Erdogan has been reelected Türkiye's president in runoff elections, the chairman of the country's Supreme Election Council (YSK) said on May 28.

USA: "Congratulations to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Türkiye on his re-election. I look forward to continuing to work together as NATO Allies on bilateral issues and shared global challenges," US President Joe Biden tweeted on May 29.

UK: "Congratulations to Recep Tayyip Erdodan. I look forward to continuing the strong collaboration between our countries, from growing trade to tackling security threats as NATO allies," UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak wrote on Twitter on May 29.

Ukraine: "Congratulations to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the occasion of winning the presidential election. We look forward to further strengthening the strategic partnership for the benefit of other countries, as well as strengthening cooperation for the security and stability of Europe," Ukrainian President Volodymur Zelenskyy tweeted on May 28.

Russia: "Dear Mr Erdogan, my dear friend, please accept my sincere congratulations on your re-election as president. The victory at the elections is a logical result of your selfless work as head of the Turkish Republic, a vivid evidence of the Turkish people’s support for your efforts toward strengthening the state sovereignty and independent foreign policy," Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a congratulatory telegram, TASS reports.

He said Russia highly values Erdogan's personal contribution to the development of friendly Russian-Turkish relations, mutually beneficial cooperation in various spheres.

"I would like to reiterate our readiness to continue our constructive dialogue of the current issues on the bilateral, regional, and international agenda," Putin stressed. "We attach great significance to the implementation of our joint projects, first of all, for the construction of the Akkuyu NPP and the establishment of a gas hub in Türkiye."

Armenia: "Congratulations to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his re-election. Looking forward to continuing working together towards full normalisation of relations between our countries," Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan tweeted on May 28.

Turkish people have spoken and we join in their celebration. We are eager to further enhance the bonds of friendship and strategic partnership between Georgian and Türkiye," Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili tweeted on May 28.

Belarus: "This convincing victory in the very difficult campaign, which was followed all around the world, is the highest mark of confidence on the part of the Turkish people," Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said in his congratulatory message, TASS reports.

According to Lukashenko, despite the important socio-political developments in Türkiye, the country has managed to preserve social stability and this is largely thanks to Erdogan.

He noted that he hopes for a soonest meeting with the Turkish president, which they agreed in Astana in October 2022. "I am convinced that relations of trust and mutual respect between Minsk and Ankara will be further strengthened for the benefit of our countries and peoples," Lukashenko stressed.

Western Balkan countries: “I’m confident that you'll remain committed to your country's continued development and its citizens' well-being. In Serbia, we look forward to strengthening our relationship further, based on mutual respect and friendship,” Anadolu cites Serbian President Aleksandr Vucic as tweeting.

Vucic said that as a reliable and serious partner of Türkiye in the Western Balkans, Serbia remains determined to work with dedication towards further expanding and strengthening relations.

"For us, Türkiye is an extremely important partner, not only in the field of economic and bilateral relations, but also on the international political scene,” he said. “I hope that in addition to the existing big projects, we will work together on new initiatives that will speed up the strong development of the entire region, but also bring people together and connect economies for the benefit of all our citizens.”
