WSJ: UAE struck key Iranian refinery on Lavan Island in April
The United Arab Emirates carried out strikes on an oil refinery on Iran’s Lavan Island in early April, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing sources.
The strikes triggered a major fire at the refinery, temporarily knocking out part of the facility’s production capacity, according to the newspaper’s sources.
In response, Tehran launched missile and drone attacks targeting the UAE and Kuwait.
The UAE strikes took place around the same time US President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire with Iran.
Sources cited by the WSJ said Washington reacted calmly to the actions of its ally, as the ceasefire had not yet fully taken effect at that point.
The UAE Foreign Ministry and the Pentagon declined to comment on the reported strikes.
