Yemeni airstrikes hit US warships and Israeli site in escalating conflict

08 April 2025 12:18

Brigadier General Yahya Saree, spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, has confirmed that two separate military operations had been carried out, highlighting the increasing capabilities of the Yemeni forces to strike at foreign military targets.

Saree announced that Yemeni forces targeted both an Israeli military facility in the occupied Jaffa area and two U.S. destroyers in the Red Sea, Caliber.Az reports, citing Arab media.

Brigadier General Saree reported that a Yemeni drone force executed a successful strike on an Israeli military objective in Jaffa using a 'Yafa' drone. This strike underlines the growing technological capabilities of Yemen’s military and their ability to penetrate defenses, particularly American systems. Saree emphasized that U.S. defenses failed to intercept the strike, which reached its intended target.

In a separate operation, the Yemeni Armed Forces' naval and drone units coordinated an attack on two U.S. destroyers stationed in the Red Sea, using a combination of cruise missiles and drones. Saree stated that these operations were a direct response to what he described as “continued American aggression” against Yemen and its people. He condemned U.S. actions, claiming they were part of an ongoing effort to suppress Yemeni resistance and disrupt the country’s support for Gaza.

“Despite the enemy’s continued attempts to weaken our resolve,” Saree said, “the crimes committed against our people will only fuel our resilience and commitment to support the oppressed Palestinian people.” He made it clear that Yemen’s military operations would persist until the Israeli siege on Gaza was lifted and the aggression against the Palestinian people ceased.

The announcement came amid an uptick in U.S.-led airstrikes in Yemen. On Sunday evening, U.S. warplanes targeted a civilian home in the Al-Haffa area of Sana'a, killing at least four people, including two women, and injuring 25 others. Among the wounded were 11 women and a child. Yemeni health authorities confirmed the casualties, describing the attack as another example of the devastating consequences of the U.S.-led aggression.

The spokesperson reiterated that the Yemeni people would continue to stand firm in their support for Gaza, regardless of the costs, highlighting their commitment to confronting further escalation by the United States and its allies. “Our stance will remain unchanged, and we are ready to escalate in response to any further U.S. aggression,” the statement concluded.

The ongoing conflict in Yemen has drawn international attention, with escalating violence further complicating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
