Yerevan court extends detention of opposition MP Artur Sargsyan
21 August 2025 18:35
A court in Yerevan has extended the pre-trial detention of Artur Sargsyan, a member of Armenia’s parliament from the opposition Armenia faction, for an additional three months.
Sargsyan is on trial alongside members of the nationalist Holy Struggle movement, facing charges of allegedly "preparing a terrorist attack" and "attempting to seize power," Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
Judge Karen Farkhuyan ruled that Sargsyan’s release posed a risk of interference with the ongoing investigation, adding that alternative forms of restraint would not be sufficient.
