Yerevan welcomes expanded EU presence to counter hybrid threats

Armenia’s Foreign Ministry has welcomed the decision of the EU Foreign Affairs Council to deploy a new civilian mission to the country, aimed at supporting efforts to strengthen Armenia’s democratic resilience and counter hybrid threats.

“Armenia welcomes the decision of the EU Foreign Affairs Council to deploy a new EU civilian mission to Armenia, which is intended to support efforts to strengthen Armenia’s democratic resilience, counter hybrid threats, including disinformation, cyberattacks, and the fight against illegal financial flows,” the Armenian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry noted that the decision to send the civilian mission was made on the basis of Armenia’s application ahead of the first Armenia–EU summit scheduled for May 5, describing it as one of the next joint initiatives stemming from the strategic agenda of Armenia’s partnership with the European Union.

It also said the mission will be deployed for an initial period of two years and will contribute to developing institutional capacity in the relevant areas, as well as enhancing the resilience of Armenian society to modern challenges.
