13 July 2024 09:47

In Tbilisi, educators and students from the Alliance Youth Centre in Georgia organized an outdoor seminar at the picturesque Botanical Garden to focus on COP29, the upcoming 29th session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change scheduled for November 2024 in Azerbaijan.

The event commenced at the Pantheon of Eminent Azerbaijanis within the garden, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.

Youth representatives paid homage to the founders of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic: Fatali Khan Khoyski, Hasan bey Aghayev, and M.F. Akhundzade, a distinguished figure in Azerbaijani literature and drama.

During the seminar, students delivered an engaging presentation commemorating Akhundzade's birthday, highlighting his contributions to Azerbaijani culture.

Later, teachers and students from the Centre visited the Heydar Aliyev Memorial Garden within the Botanical Garden. Notably, this site saw the planting of 100 pomegranate trees, a tribute initiated by the Azerbaijani Embassy in Georgia in honour of the great leader's centenary. This gesture was celebrated as Azerbaijan's commitment to promoting ecological awareness and environmental conservation in neighbouring Georgia.

Rena Huseynova, Executive Director of the Centre, provided in-depth insights into Azerbaijan's efforts in ecology, environmental protection, and preparations for COP29. She emphasized that the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is the paramount decision-making body for international climate policy. Each year, representatives from governments worldwide convene at COP to advocate for collaborative action against climate change and its impacts.

Highlighting the significance of hosting COP29 in Azerbaijan in 2024, Huseynova hailed it as a significant achievement attributable to President Ilham Aliyev's resolute leadership and the steadfast support of Azerbaijan's candidacy by the Eastern European Group member countries.

Anticipating tens of thousands of international participants at COP29, Huseynova underscored Azerbaijan's proven capability in hosting major global events.

She also noted Georgia's commendable efforts in climate change and environmental conservation, highlighting collaborative projects between Azerbaijan and Georgia in environmental protection and biodiversity enhancement.
