Zelenskyy accuses Russia of blocking peace talks

22 February 2026 10:30

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated the United States witnessed that Russia is obstructing talks on ending the war.

"Last time in Geneva, the American side clearly saw that it is precisely the Russians who are the reason no truly meaningful results had yet been achieved. And the next meeting must not be a wasted opportunity – it can be done,” Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram, per Caliber.Az.

He also noted that the Ukrainian authorities “will coordinate in detail so that Europe is involved in all processes and grows only stronger.”

“I also instructed Rustem [Umerov] to work more closely with our friends in the Middle East and Türkiye, so that they also feel invested and can help more,” the Ukrainian leader added.

The latest round of trilateral peace talks involving Ukraine, Russia and the United States took place in Geneva, Switzerland, on February 17–18, 2026. These negotiations were mediated by the U.S. and held in a two‑day session aimed at addressing ways to end the conflict in Ukraine.

The talks are part of ongoing diplomatic efforts and represent the third round of trilateral meetings following earlier rounds in Abu Dhabi in January and early February 2026.

Negotiators discussed political and military issues, including territorial disputes, security arrangements, and the monitoring of any future ceasefire, but the February 17–18 meetings ended without a major breakthrough. Both sides described the discussions as difficult, with unresolved differences remaining on key points.
