Zelenskyy congratulates Pashinyan, calls Armenia vote sovereignty win
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has congratulated Armenia on its recent parliamentary elections, praising what he described as a “victory for sovereignty” and calling for deeper cooperation between Yerevan and Kyiv, while urging the European Union to step up its engagement with the country.
In a post on X, Zelenskyy also congratulated Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on his electoral success and framed the outcome as a reaffirmation of democratic choice.
“I congratulate Armenia on holding democratic and free elections, and @NikolPashinyan on his victory,” Zelenskyy wrote. “This is also a victory for Armenia’s sovereignty, your independence, and your right to live the way you choose. We wish you success.”
He added that Ukraine is prepared to deepen bilateral cooperation with Armenia, positioning the moment as an opportunity for closer ties with Europe.
“Ukraine is ready to expand our cooperation,” he said, “and now is precisely the time for the European Union to provide real support to Armenia and do everything necessary to ensure that people feel their lives are better thanks to their relationship with Europe.”
Zelenskyy further stressed that the situation represents a broader geopolitical test for Brussels, urging European institutions not to hesitate in their response.
“This is a test for the European Union,” he wrote. “It is important not to lose time or miss opportunities.”
Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party, led by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, has secured a decisive victory in parliamentary elections seen as a key test of the country’s geopolitical direction.
Preliminary results from the Central Electoral Commission show Civil Contract winning 49.8% of the vote, ahead of the Strong Armenia Alliance with 23.2%, while the Armenia Alliance came third with 9.9%. The Prosperous Armenia party received around 4%.
