Zelenskyy expresses regret over tense meeting with Trump at White House
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed regret over the tense exchange that took place with US President Donald Trump during their recent meeting at the White House.
In his post on X, Zelenskyy acknowledged that the meeting on February 28 did not unfold as expected, Caliber.Az reports.
“Our meeting in Washington, at the White House on Friday, did not go the way it was supposed to be. It is regrettable that it happened this way. It is time to make things right. We would like future cooperation and communication to be constructive,” Zelenskyy wrote.
“I would like to reiterate Ukraine’s commitment to peace. None of us wants an endless war. Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer. Nobody wants peace more than Ukrainians. My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get a peace that lasts,” Zelenskyy added.
On February 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived at the White House for a meeting with President Donald Trump. During the discussion, which was attended by journalists, a confrontation broke out between the two leaders. Trump pointed out Zelenskyy’s disrespectful attitude toward the US, while Vice President JD Vance noted that Zelenskyy had failed to thank Washington for its support of Ukraine.
As a result of the exchange, the planned press conference following the meeting was canceled. On his Truth Social account, Trump issued a statement in which he emphasised that Zelenskyy’s actions displayed a lack of respect and indicated his unwillingness to seek a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
