Zelenskyy proposes First Deputy PM Svyrydenko as new prime minister
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has proposed First Deputy Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko to lead the Ukrainian government as Prime Minister, signalling a major shift in the executive leadership and structure of the country.
The announcement on Telegram came following a high-level meeting between the President and Svyrydenko, focused on Ukraine’s recovery efforts and long-term resilience, Caliber.Az reports.
Zelenskyy stated that he expects Svyrydenko to spearhead a significant renewal of the government’s work and present a new action plan in the coming days.
"I have proposed that Yuliia Svyrydenko take on the role of Prime Minister and lead a substantial renewal of the government's operations," Zelenskyy said in an official statement.
"We must swiftly realise everything that can strengthen the resilience of our state and society."
During their meeting, the President received a report from Svyrydenko detailing the progress of agreements made with Ukraine’s European and American partners during the recent Ukraine Recovery Conference.
The two also discussed concrete steps to reinforce Ukraine’s economic potential, including expanding social support programmes, boosting domestic arms production, and implementing broader reforms.
Zelenskyy underlined the need to accelerate the implementation of all support measures and strategic initiatives agreed upon with Western allies.
Svyrydenko, who currently oversees economic affairs in the Cabinet, has played a leading role in international negotiations and domestic economic planning.
