Zelenskyy: Russia fired 1,900 drones, dozens of missiles in week-long barrage
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Russia launched roughly 1,900 strike drones, nearly 1,400 guided aerial bombs and about 60 missiles of various types against Ukraine over the past week, underscoring the continued intensity of long-range attacks.
In a post on Telegram, Zelenskyy said the scale of the strikes highlights the importance of recent international support measures, including contributions to the PURL programme, approval of the EU’s 20th sanctions package, and a €90 billion European support initiative agreed in Cyprus.
He thanked Ukraine’s partners for their assistance.
Zelenskyy also said Ukraine’s air defence systems are currently intercepting more than 90% of incoming drones, describing this as a “very high” success rate.
However, he stressed the need to further improve interception capabilities, including against ballistic missiles.
“Every additional delivery of air defence missiles saves lives, better protects cities and safeguards critical infrastructure,” he said.
