Azerbaijani-UK group condemns latest Armenia violence, urges sustainable peace
The Azerbaijan-UK inter-parliamentary relations working group has issued a statement, which condemned the recent Armenian violence on the border with Azerbaijan and called Yerevan for peace.
The statement by the working group chairman, Bob Blackman, says that on September 13, 2022, Armenia committed new brutal attacks on the sovereign territory of Azerbaijan, APA's UK bureau reports.
It was noted that these attacks are directed against innocent people, infrastructure and the Azerbaijani army for no apparent reason.
The MP noted that these attacks were not directed at the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, but at its internationally recognised sovereign borders and were completely gratuitous and unfounded.
The statement says that the Azerbaijani-British working group on inter-parliamentary relations condemns the violence committed by Armenia and expresses deep concern about the persons, who were killed during these clashes, and their families.
"We call on Armenia to demonstrate consistency and commitment to the normalisation process led by the European Union, to continue the peaceful dialogue. Armenia's latest revanchism has undermined the established trust. We call on Armenia to constructively and with good will establish relations with Azerbaijan, to achieve a satisfactory solution to post-conflict problems, and most importantly - to share information about minefields, missing persons, to remove obstacles on communication and transport routes," the statement reads.
Bob Blackman said that it is necessary to intensify joint work on the final Comprehensive Peace Agreement, which both sides adopted during the Brussels meeting on August 31, 2022, and to continue working on the issues raised at the meeting.
The statement noted that the international community, in particular the United Kingdom, should condemn Armenia and give an account of the war crimes committed by Armenia.
"We urgently call on the UK government to join other nations to demand an immediate end to the Armenian aggression, we demand the imposition of sanctions against Armenia if it continues its unjustified actions.
We also ask the UK government to provide its strong political support to the normalisation process mediated by the EU, in order to achieve sustainable peace in the region, which is vital for the personal interests of the UK," the MP said.
