Azerbaijani FM condemns civilian losses in India-Pakistan hostilities

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeyhun Bayramov, held a telephone conversation with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Muhammad Ishaq Dar, on May 8 to discuss the latest regional developments.

The two ministers exchanged views on the evolving security dynamics in the region, with particular attention to the recent escalation between Pakistan and India, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.

Minister Dar provided a detailed account of the missile strikes conducted by India against Pakistani territory on May 6–7, noting that the attacks had caused significant harm to the civilian population and resulted in numerous casualties. He further stated that Pakistan’s response targeted military installations, and that he had been engaged in active diplomatic outreach to counterparts in various countries to convey the circumstances and implications of the situation.

Minister Bayramov conveyed Azerbaijan’s solidarity with the people of Pakistan and expressed deep concern over the loss of civilian lives. He strongly condemned the attacks that led to civilian casualties and underlined the urgent need to prevent further escalation.

Emphasising the importance of dialogue and peaceful resolution, Minister Bayramov voiced hope that the current tensions would be de-escalated through diplomatic channels and constructive engagement.

The two ministers also took the opportunity to review other matters of mutual interest and reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation and coordination on regional and international issues.
