Israel’s 77th Independence Day celebrated in Baku with message of unity, resilience

The Embassy of the State of Israel in Azerbaijan marked Israel’s 77th Independence Day with a solemn yet uplifting reception in Baku, attended by high-ranking officials, diplomats, business leaders, and representatives of the Jewish community.

Held on May 8, the event not only commemorated the founding of the State of Israel but also underscored the strong and deepening ties between Israel and Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Israeli Embassy in Baku.

Ambassador George Deek opened the evening with reflections on Israel’s journey from survival to sovereignty, and the enduring friendship between Israel and Azerbaijan—built on shared resilience, mutual respect, and a common vision for peace and progress.

Representing the Azerbaijani government, Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov also addressed the guests, highlighting the strong economic cooperation between the two countries and the shared values that underpin bilateral relations.

The reception featured live performances by a string quartet and renowned Azerbaijani musician Farid Aliyev, offering a musical tribute to the spirit of resilience and peace. Guests enjoyed Israeli cuisine, including a falafel station, and were invited to participate in a “Wall of Hope” — a space dedicated to messages of solidarity and healing for the victims of the October 7th attacks, and the safe return of all 59 hostages in Hamas’ captivity.

More than a celebration, the evening stood as a powerful statement of unity between Israel and Azerbaijan — a testament to shared values of freedom, resilience, and the enduring belief in a brighter, more peaceful future.
