Why is Iranian side rushing? "Graparak" reports on consulate opening in Kafan
The formal opening ceremony of an Iranian Consulate in the Armenian town of Kafan is taking place on October 21.
Caliber.Az reports on this, citing the Yerevan-based Graparak publication.
"The Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, is in Armenia since yesterday on an official visit. He will attend the formal opening ceremony of the consulate together with the Head of Armenia’s Foreign Ministry, Ararat Mirzoyan.
Remarkably, the renovation works in the consulate building have not finished, but a decision was made to hold the opening ceremony anyways – most probably at the Iranian side’s initiative.
In fact, according to our sources inside Syunik [Zangazur], the regional authorities were even unaware of today’s event and it basically took place spontaneously”, the publication writes.
The media outlet further recalls, that the Iranian authorities have made the decision on the opening of the consulate back in December 2021, appointing Abedin Varamin as the Iranian Consul General.
