Child dies after explosive ordnance detonates in Belgorod, Russia

A schoolboy from Russia’s Belgorod Region has died after an explosive device detonated, the region’s acting governor, Alexander Shuvaev, has said.

He noted that the eight-year-old child found the object and attempted to pick it up; the explosive device detonated in his hands, killing the boy, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

The incident occurred in the settlement of Rakitnoye.

“There are no words that can console the parents; nevertheless, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family,” Shuvaev added.

Shuvaev reminded residents not to pick up suspicious objects. Instead, they should move to a safe distance and report the discovery to emergency services.

He also urged parents to speak with their children so that they know what to do in such situations.
