Hungary ready to end Russian gas imports by October 2027

Hungary is prepared to stop purchasing Russian gas from October 2027, although it considers the EU’s ban a political decision, the country’s Energy Ministry has said.

It noted that Budapest is currently holding talks with Romania and LNG suppliers to ensure that Russian gas can be replaced by that date, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

The EU’s phase-out rules envisage an end to Russian pipeline gas imports in 2027, with long-term contracts to be phased out by autumn 2027.
