Georgia's expertise bureau rejects diagnosis results of ex-president Saakashvili

The National Bureau of Expertise in Georgia has not confirmed the results of the diagnoses of ex-president Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, made by the medical centre "Empathy".

The announcement came by Minister of Justice of Georgia Rati Bregadze, reports Sputnik Georgia.

“We can safely say that, in accordance with the conclusion of the National Bureau of Expertise, previously made psychiatric, neurological, and gastroenterological diagnoses are not reliable and irrefutable,” he said.

The Ministry of Justice emphasized that they would submit this conclusion to the court, which decides on the release of Saakashvili.

In early December 2022, doctors assessed Saakashvili's condition as serious. According to the consultation of the expert group, Saakashvili is suffering from fourth-stage exhaustion, which is dangerous for his life.

The Empathy NGO previously published a medical report, according to which Saakashvili, who is serving a six-year term in prison, had ten diagnoses incompatible with imprisonment. In his body, they found an increased content of barium, bismuth, and mercury, which are dangerous to health.
