Armenia announces launch of dialogue with EU on security, defence
Armenia and the European Union have formally initiated consultations on security and defence matters, marking a significant advancement in their bilateral cooperation.
This development was announced by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during a press conference following his meeting with European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas in Yerevan, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
Minister Mirzoyan underscored that the commencement of these consultations represents a crucial step toward aligning Armenia-EU cooperation with contemporary security challenges. He emphasized the imperative to intensify joint efforts to address and overcome such challenges effectively.
“The launch of consultations in the field of defence and security is an important step to bring the framework of our cooperation in line with the contemporary challenges and to make additional efforts to overcome them,” Mirzoyan stated.
He further highlighted the importance of enhancing Armenia’s resilience and advancing the development of democratic institutions. Key areas of focus include countering hybrid threats and combating disinformation campaigns, which are increasingly prevalent in today’s geopolitical landscape.
The Armenian Foreign Minister also referenced the ongoing activities of the EU Intelligence Mission in Armenia, noting its role in strengthening the country’s security apparatus. Additionally, the discussion touched upon the support extended to Armenia through the European Peace Facility, a crucial instrument aimed at fostering peace and stability in the region.
