Armenia welcomes potential EU role in South Caucasus infrastructure projects PHOTO
Armenia would welcome possible European Union participation in infrastructure projects across the South Caucasus, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has said.
Speaking to reporters in Brussels after a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, Mirzoyan said discussions with EU member states had covered the full scope of Armenia–EU cooperation, including economic ties, resilience, and security issues such as hybrid threats and support provided through the European Peace Facility, Caliber.Az reports.
He said the talks followed a “very successful” Armenia–EU Partnership Council meeting held two weeks earlier, at which the two sides adopted a Strategic Partnership Agenda, elevating relations to what he described as a new level.

Mirzoyan also noted progress in talks on visa liberalisation, calling it important for Armenian citizens and for closer ties with the EU. He added that regional developments, including the opening of transport and communication links in the South Caucasus, had been discussed, along with emerging opportunities for cooperation.
“As part of these discussions, we would welcome possible EU involvement in infrastructure projects,” he said.
Mirzoyan attended the meeting at the invitation of his EU counterparts. According to Armenia’s Foreign Ministry, a working breakfast brought together EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, and foreign ministers or senior representatives from EU member states.
The ministry said participants highlighted significant progress in the Armenia–EU partnership and exchanged views on future priorities. Mirzoyan praised the support and consensus achieved in implementing the strategic partnership agenda and joint initiatives.
EU member states expressed support for Armenia’s democratic development, efforts to strengthen resilience, and measures to counter hybrid threats. In the context of regional developments, they also backed the process of reopening communications and initiatives aimed at further consolidating peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
