Government of Russia's Samara Region to resign in technical move from Dec. 16
The government of Russia’s Samara region will step down in a technical resignation effective December 16, Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev announced during a government briefing.
“The decision on the resignation of the Samara regional government has been made. The relevant gubernatorial decree was signed today and will come into effect on December 16. The resignation is of a technical nature, in line with amendments we made to the region’s charter, and also due to the need to strengthen certain areas of work,” TASS quotes Fedorishchev as saying.
He emphasised that all government members will continue in their roles as acting officials until a new government is formed. The governor plans to submit the candidate for the position of government head to the regional Duma for consideration.
On October 9, MPs of the Samara Regional Duma approved, in two readings, amendments to the charter proposed by Fedoryshchev. The government structure was reorganised, and Samara was granted the status of the region’s capital. Fedorishchev previously stated that the restructuring would reduce the number of ministries by 10% and cut the managerial staff of regional agencies by 20%.
Under the new structure, there will be four First Deputy Governor positions. One will head the government, another will lead the administration of the governor, while the remaining two deputies will oversee the economy and internal policy. The government will be led by the First Deputy Governor.
