Media: Former United Russia MP sentenced to 10 years for fraud
A former United Russia deputy has been sentenced to 10 years in a general-regime penal colony for defrauding soldiers in exchange for promises of front-line exemption.
The Klintsovsky City Court in Russia’s Bryansk region found Vladimir Reuk guilty of large-scale fraud and attempted large-scale fraud, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ostorozhno Novosti.
He was also fined 960,000 roubles (over $12,000) and banned from holding administrative positions for three years.
The court determined that Reuk deceived a serviceman, taking money under the promise of releasing him from front-line duty. In the case of attempted fraud, the scheme was not completed after the victim refused to hand over funds.
Reuk denied all charges during the trial. Earlier this year, in February, he was sentenced to eight years in prison for similar offences involving extorting money from military personnel.
