Tashkent to roll out FIFA's Central Asia office ahead of 2027 U-20 World Cup
A regional FIFA office for Central Asian countries will be opened in Tashkent as part of preparations for the 2027 U-20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.
The decree establishing the office was signed by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, per Caliber.Az.
The document outlines key priorities for organizing the tournament, including the development of modern infrastructure, ensuring comfortable conditions for participants and fans, and enhancing the country’s international image.
The FIFA regional office will be located in the Uzbek Football Association building on a rent-free basis. FIFA will cover the primary operational costs, with any shortfall funded by the Uzbekistan Football Support Fund, not exceeding 50% of total expenses. Renovation and equipment costs will be financed by the Reconstruction and Development Fund.
The FIFA Council approved Uzbekistan as a co-host on October 2, 2025. An Organizing Committee, headed by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, has been established to coordinate preparations. The committee is responsible for stadium and training facility upgrades, equipping venues with modern infrastructure, visa and transport arrangements, medical support, and volunteer management.
The Ministry of Transport will organize dedicated bus routes between Tashkent and New Tashkent and provide free public transport for accredited participants and spectators. The Ministry of Energy will ensure uninterrupted and alternative power supply to tournament venues.
The Uzbek Football Association will oversee the construction of the Central Football Stadium “New Tashkent” in compliance with FIFA and AFC requirements and will coordinate the launch of the official tournament ball, logo, and mascot, as well as the World Cup trophy tour. A local working group for tournament preparations must be established by January 1, 2026.
The National Television and Radio Company and information agencies will broadcast the matches, develop a media plan, and provide extensive coverage both domestically and internationally. Funding for the tournament’s preparation and execution is allocated in the 2026–2027 budget.
Personal responsibility for implementing the decree is assigned to the Minister of Sports, the Chairman of the Football Association, and the Tashkent hokim, with overall supervision by the Prime Minister and the President’s sports representative.
